From the Archive: The legacy of Daisy Bates
Our archive features many pieces that explore and reckon with the legacy of Daisy Bates’s civil rights work in Arkansas and beyond. In 2013, Janis F. Kearney wrote about her experience meeting Bates in 1969. Central High alum Frederick McKindra’s essay "Becoming Integrated" was listed as a Notable Essay in Best American Essays 2018. In season one of Points South, we featured a performance of the No Tears Suite, an original jazz composition commissioned by the OA to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the desegregation crisis at Little Rock’s Central High School.
